Beneath the Surface: Teen Summer Reading 2013

From June 1 to August 3, as you read new books, watch new movies or performances, listen to new music or podcasts, and do new things, track it in your Teen Summer Reading log book. Once you've tracked ten activities, turn it in to the library to get a free book (to keep!) and entry into an end of summer prize package. Pick up your log book today at any City Library Branch.

Calling All Zombies: Sat, Jun 22, 2pm–3pm, Anderson-Foothill Branch
CALLING ALL ZOMBIES!!! Join us, and bring a friend, for this ZOMBIE makeup workshop, lead by Aspen McKenna Makeup Artistry. Get a free photo of your zombie look shot by Matt Spencer Photography. We’ll email you your zombie awesomeness so you can share it, print it, or post it to your favorite brain-eating social website. Tagging Your Library: Fri, Jun 28, 4pm–5:30pm, Day-Riverside Branch
Hey, punk. Put your graffiti skills to good use and learn more about underground street art at this teen-only event. By the end of the afternoon, we'll create a one-of-a-kind work of art to hang at the Day-Riverside Branch.



Fold Your Own Accordion Books: Sat, Jul 20, 1pm–3pm, Main Library Canteena, Level 2
Sure, you've read plenty of books, but have you ever REALLY looked at a book? Beneath the words and pictures, books are beautifully-crafted works of art. Get a primer in book-making with the accordion book form, and take home a journal to fill with your own words and pictures.



It's a Bleach Party: Wed, Jul 31, 4pm–5:30pm, Chapman Branch
Dig fashion? Or just want to make a statement? Turn your old pieces of clothing into a work of art at The City Library's Bleach Party just for teens! Create your own unique wearable masterpiece using a bleach pen. Bring a dark or bold-colored piece of clothing (*Pastel and lighter colors will not work*) and your imagination---The City Library will provide the rest. Altered Books: Sat, Aug 3, 1pm–3pm, Main Library, Room A
You've spent all summer dissecting novels and non-fiction -- now it's time to take a few books apart at the End of Teen Summer Reading Altered Books Party! Make new art out of old books, grab some food, and win a prize while you're at it.
