In January, the SLCC Community Writing Center embarked on a quest to help writers distill their thoughts into one six-word sentence about race, based on Michele Norris’ The Race Card Project, and then to turn that sentence into a longer piece of poetry, nonfiction, fiction or another genre. Writers could choose to submit their resulting work to the community anthology, which was published in February. Excerpts and highlights from the writing anthology will be on display. Andrea Malouf, Director of the Community Writing Center, will speak about the project at the Opening Reception (Fri, Mar 14, 7pm). A Race Card Wall, where visitors can articulate their feelings about race in six words, accompanies the exhibition.
