Always Within Never

These small works pay homage to the main library building and block, in whose complex and active space I find myself over and over again drawn to the interludes, quiet moments when light and form come together to create rich arrangements of shapes and shadows. There is a kind of everyday patience to these odd passages of beauty: they wait for us to take notice, to pause, to appreciate the play of light on form, the naturalistic echoes — simple shapes and line, often accidentally framed by doorways, windows, and arcs which create gateways to viewing. I look for rhythm, and repetition — a pulse beneath an apparently mundane surface. With this group I nervously and excitedly depart from portraiture and the figure, my most familiar subject matter, to explore media, texture, layering, and line. I am especially grateful to the Turkey Land Cove Foundation for their profound support and encouragement during this project’s development.
