Banned Books Week is September 22-28. Celebrate your
Freedom to Read—free of limits, censorship, challenges, or bans—by posting a photo of yourself reading a banned book to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Make sure to tag your picture with #SLCPLFreedomToRead for a chance to win great prizes from the Salt Lake City Public Library. Prizes include Gift Certificates from
The Library Store,
Weller Book Works or
The King’s English Bookshop!
Also, enjoy Banned Books Week-themed events all week at each Branch! Each Salt Lake City Public Library branch location will feature a mason jar filled with the shredded pages of a banned book. Can you guess which book it is? Fill out a form with your contact information and your guess of the title of the book in the jar. We’ll draw additional winners from the correct guesses.
Finally, get your mugshot taken in the Main Library on Saturday, September 28. After all, you're a "criminal" for reading banned books, right? From 2-4pm, the SLC Photo Collective will set up a photo booth in the Share Space where you can get your mugshot taken.
Need some reading suggestions? The American Library Association (ALA) publishes numerous lists of banned/challenged books. You can browse those lists here.
