Karl Beckstrand visits the Sprague Library to read from his popular children's book Crumbs on the Stairs (Migas en Las Escaleras).

Karl Beckstrand is an eight-time author with 16 titles online. Raised in San Jose, California, USA, he received a BA in journalism from BYU and an MA in international relations from APU. He has lived abroad, been a Spanish/English interpreter, and has worked with diverse groups from around the world. Beckstrand’s nationally-lauded activity books, Spanish & bilingual books (with pronunciation guide), eBook mysteries, and nonfiction stories feature minority characters and usually end with a twist.

Now in its 16th year, the Utah Humanities Book Festival has become Utah’s signature literary event. The festival is a chance for book lovers of all types to enjoy some great, free-of-charge events at locations throughout Utah.

The Salt Lake City portion of the Festival has been extended to two days this year, Sep 28–29, with author events taking place around Library Square, in the Main Library Auditorium, and in various Conference Rooms. This event is intended to be a kick off for the month of events to follow (the festival runs statewide for six weeks, from Sep 17–Oct 31). Visit Utah Humanities Council for a complete schedule of events.

The City Library will play host to several additional author events throughout October, including award-winning Children’s author Obert Skye (author of Pinocula (Creature from My Closet) and the bestselling Leven Thumps series) in the Children’ Library Story Room at 2pm on Saturday, October 19th.
