Norse Mythology: Student Illustrations of Yggdrasil, the World Tree by students from Excelsior Academy Jr. High
Reception: Sat, Apr 20, 2-3:30pm

See the world tree, or Yggdrasil, from Norse mythology, as expressed by the students from Excelsior Academy Jr. High. After learning about Norse culture and mythology, students were given the task of envisioning and creating their version of Yggdrasil.

According to Norse mythology all life centers around Yggdrasil. Its branches are said to stretch through nine realms from the underworld up to Asgard, the home of the gods. The trunk of Yggdrasil anchors Midgard, the world of humans, while the tree’s three roots reach down into Jotunheim, the land of the frost giants; Nilfheim, the land of mists; and Asgard, the home of the gods. The universe is structured around Yggdrasil, and this structure also served as a passage from one realm to the next.
