Scenes from Terciera
by Reida Fillmore
Reception Mar 30, 4pm
My experience, living for several years on the island of Terceira (part of the Azores islands, Portugal), is the subject of the work in this show. The island has fascinating places and people, with striking textures, colors, and old world charm that is difficult to find here in the rural US.
Most of my work is peaceful and calm, while creating a sense of movement with a variety of line. The colors I tend to use express warmth and life. I often add something alive in my paintings: birds, chickens, cows, or people.
Reida Fillmore has been creating in one way or another all of her life. She has always loved watercolor! She enjoys what it can do and the process itself. Reida has been part of many solo and group shows and received numerous awards, including being chosen twice for the Utah Arts Council Travelling Show. Other places she has shown her work are North Carolina, the Azores, Portugal and Utah.
Born in Provo, Utah, following her career military husband around the world for 24 years, she now resides in Cache Valley. She attended Brigham Young University, and graduated with a BA in illustration from Utah State University. Reida belongs to the Utah Watercolor Society and currently is the treasurer and membership chairperson for the Cache Valley Chapter. She also belongs to the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
