Artist's Statement:My name is Andrew Bouwhuis and I am a amateur photographer who started in this hobby 4-5 years ago and over time it has become much more than that. Photography is something that I love and it seems to take up a lot of time and money but I find it intensely interesting and feel very passionate about it.
I remember once as a child (7 or 8) looking out my parents front window at a lovely sunset and thinking to myself, “Remember this. It’s too beautiful to forget. I wish I could keep this in my mind forever.” Well, with photography those moments of beauty and enlightenment CAN last forever. I have lost some of the childlike zeal that I had back then and regrettably let some things pass me by but I still love natural beauty and seem to find it in everything.
This exhibit is comprised of a number of pieces that I took last summer and fall. As you can see the moon, and its awesome beauty, dominate all these shots. They demonstrate the unique way that the moon affects the mood and feeling of the world around us. I spent many hours with a tripod and timer in waiting for these shots to set up. Some of them are considered “Compositions” and some are not. I will let you decide which are which.
I hope you enjoy these prints that, at least for me, stir up emotions of celestial glories and the magical pull and power the moon has on both this world and each of us as individuals.
