The City Library now offers Salt Lake residents the ability to download audio books to their home computer or mp3 player. Working with Recorded Books and NetLibrary, The City Library offers more than 1600 titles, with 40 titles added each month.
Library patrons with a valid City Library card can access the catalog of audio books through the City Library's website, www.slcpl.org. First time users must register on the Recorded Books/NetLibrary website. After registration, patrons can check out up to ten items for a three-week checkout period. Each item can be renewed for an additional three weeks.
Recorded Books offers two categories of audio quality. A "radio quality" recording takes approximately five minutes to download using a cable modem, depending on length of book. A file with "CD quality" audio has better clarity, but takes longer to download.
Patrons with an mp3 device can transfer the CD quality audio books to those devices. A full list of compatible players is available at the link below.
